The Dusty Shelf is a monthly e-zine dedicated to those books too often left upon dusty shelves,
classic literature. The first issue was released on January 15, 2005.
The Dusty Shelf has launched an advertising campaign to reach a wide
variety of literature lovers. We have advertised both in print and
on the web. In addition, we use other means to promote the
new e-zine (partnerships, bumper stickers, t-shirts, fliers, etc.)
The Dusty Shelf is accepting articles that are classic literature related.
We accept articles and reviews that are original. We prefer work that
has not been previously published, but exceptions can be made. Most importantly,
we are looking for articles that are unique and interesting!
Our Review Process
Articles and reviews are given to the editor. The editor will decide whether or not to
accept each submission based on our current needs and on quality. The acceptance/rejection process can
take anywhere from a few days to a few months. If the submission is
accepted it will be proofread and edited for grammar, punctuation, spelling,
etc. If any changes beyond those basic corrections are needed the edited
article will be sent back to its writer for approval. In some cases the editor will edit the length of an article for space. Writers of work
accepted for publication in the Dusty Shelf will be notified by e-mail.
The Dusty Shelf can accept only a limited number of submissions for
publication. Some submissions must be turned down for lack of space. Other
submissions will be turned down for reasons of content and style. We
reserve the right to reject any story for any reason. Due to the number
of submissions, we e-mail a standard rejection letter.
One submission per month per contributor, unless requested by
the editor.
For Dusty Shelf Contributors
The Dusty Shelf does not pay for unsolicited submissions at this time. All
contributors will be given a small resource box at the end of their article
or review and will be featured on a contributor page.
The contributor page will contain a brief profile of each writer published
in that month's issue. Writers have the option of including a URL,
e-mail address, and photo in their profile.
Writers of published articles/reviews will receive a small Dusty Shelf thank
you package. To receive our gift you must include your mailing address and
t-shirt size with your submission (or upon notification of acceptance).
How To Subimt Your Work
All submissions must be made by e-mail. No file attachments.
Submissions must be sent as the body-text of the e-mail message.
Submissions sent as attached files will not be read.
Send a brief biography along with your article or review. The biography should
be approximately 4 to 8 sentences. Please include information such as
first and last name*, general location (as broad as a country or as
specific as a city), occupation, education, hobbies, previous publications,
favorite authors, etc. NOTE: You do not need to include
all of the information listed above. The items listed are
suggestions only. Also include a URL and e-mail address
if you would like them included in your profile. Photos can be e-mailed
as attachments after work has been accepted for publication.
*Writers have the option to write under a pen name. We will
publish your work under a pseudonym, but the Dusty Shelf needs your real
name for our records. Your name works as a signature stating that
you are indeed the author of the work you submit. If you choose
to use a pen name, please make that clear in your submission!
Our Rights - Your Rights
If the Dusty Shelf publishes your work, you are granting us permission
to publish it on the Dusty Shelf website and for that work to remain
archived on the website indefinitely (The Dusty Shelf is granted a
nonexclusive right to archive work in electronic back issues).
The copyright remains with the author. If we accept your work for
publication, the Dusty Shelf holds exclusive right to web rights for
that work for two months after publication (You can not publish the
work elsewhere online for two months after it is published at the
Dusty Shelf).
Works first published at the Dusty Shelf should be noted as such if
published elsewhere at a later date.
The Dusty Shelf reserves all rights to decide to publish or not to publish
all submitted works. All publishing decisions are made exclusively by
the editor.
